Privacy Policy

This privacy policy explains how the Aberdeen Mosque and Islamic Centre (AMIC) uses any personal information we collect about you when you use our website or other services in line with the DPA 2018 and current GDPR guidelines.

Your personal data

Personal data relates to a living individual who can be identified from that data. Identification can be by the information alone or in conjunction with any other information in the data controller’s possession or likely to come into such possession. The processing of personal data is governed by the General Data Protection Regulation (the “GDPR”) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Data controller

AMIC is the data controller. This means it determines how and why your personal data is processed.

Data available to us

Your personal data may be available to us to enable us to deliver services, and carry out analysis and research on demographics, interests and behaviour of our users and supporters to help us gain a better understanding of them to enable us to improve our services. This may include connecting data we receive from you on the website to data available from other sources. Your personally identifiable data will only be used where it is necessary for the analysis required, and where your interests for privacy are not deemed to outweigh our legitimate interests in developing new services for us. In the case of this activity, the following will apply:

  • Your data will be made available to us.

  • The data that may be available to us include any of the data we collect as described in this policy.

  • We will not transfer your data to any other third party, or transfer your data outside of the EEA.

  • We will store your data for a maximum of 7 years.

  • This processing does not affect your rights as detailed in this privacy policy.

How do we collect information about you?

We may collect information about you when you:

  • Make a donation

  • Sign up as a fundraiser

  • Book a place on a course or event

  • Request our counselling service

  • Register for a marriage service

  • Sign up for our WhatsApp broadcast

  • Enrol on education classes

  • Apply for employment or to become a volunteer

  • Make an Enquiry

  • Register for any activity, course or program within AMIC

The information we collect about you is used to process the above. If you agree, we may contact you regarding other activities, services or campaigns we think may be of interest to you.

How do we process the data we collect about you?

AMIC complies with its obligations under the “GDPR” including the following principles:

  • Lawfulness, fairness and transparency

  • Purpose limitation

  • Data minimisation

  • Accuracy

  • Storage limitation

  • Integrity and confidentiality

AMIC may use your personal data for the following purposes:

  • To enable us to provide a voluntary service for the benefit of the public in a particular geographical area as specified in our constitution

  • To administer membership records

  • To fundraise and promote the interests of the charity

  • To manage our employees and volunteers

  • To maintain our own accounts and records (including the processing of gift aid applications)

  • To inform you of news, events, activities and services running at AMIC

  • To provide funeral information

  • To provide education services including Quran memorisation and recitation, Tajwid classes, classes on various Islamic subjects and topics

  • To comply with legal and regulatory obligations

For the efficient and effective management of AMIC, recorded CCTV is utilised for security purposes on our premises.

Marketing

If you have consented to receive information, you may opt out at a later date. You have a right at any time to stop us from contacting you about activities, services or campaigns. If you no longer wish to be contacted about activities, services or campaigns, you may contact us in any of the ways given at the end of this notice.

Sharing and retention of your personal data

Your personal data will be treated as strictly confidential and will only be shared with other members or law enforcement where there is a legal and/or regulatory obligation. Your data may be shared with service providers such as cloud storage.

We will keep your personal data unless you ask us to delete it. If you ask us to delete your personal data, we will do so provided it is not within any period for which the data must be held due to accountancy or any other rules.

Membership records are retained for as long as you remain a member. Education records are retained for as long as you continue to use the services provided by AMIC or until any outstanding fees have been paid in full.

Access to your information and correction

Unless subject to an exemption under the GDPR, you have the following rights with respect to your personal data:

  • The right to request a copy of your personal data which AMIC holds about you. (If you would like a copy of some or all of your personal information, please contact us in any of the ways given at the end of this notice.)

  • The right to request that AMIC corrects any personal data if it is found to be inaccurate or out of date.

  • The right to request the erasure of your personal data where it is no longer necessary for AMIC to retain such data.

  • The right to withdraw your consent to the processing of your data at any time.

  • The right, where there is a dispute in relation to the accuracy or processing of your personal data, to request that a restriction is placed on further processing.

  • The right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioners Office if you think there is an issue with the way we handle your data (www.ico.org.uk).

We keep our privacy policy under regular review. This privacy policy was last updated on the 19th of August 2022.
