  • The Marriage (Nikah) Procedure in Aberdeen Mosque

    Important Notes:

All Nikah/Marriage ceremonies are done according to the Islamic sharia law, as well as Scottish law at the same time.

Both the Nikah ceremony and legal marriage will be done jointly by the imam and at the same time.

The Imam will conduct the ceremony on behalf of the Aberdeen City Council as well as the Mosque.

The religious and legal ceremonies cannot be separated and must be done at the same time.

There will not be a Nikah ceremony without paperwork (The mosque doesn’t conduct verbally only ceremonies).

All legal certificates and paperwork are to be collected from Aberdeen City Council.

    Procedure for making Nikah (Marriage):

Book Appointment with the Imam and collect reference details

Apply for the marriage in Aberdeen City Council as early as possible (Please check how early you need to apply by law as the rule keeps changing by home office)

Both Parties are to be interviewed at least two weeks before the ceremony by the Imam to plan and prepare for the ceremony

The Marriage schedule to be collected from Aberdeen City Council one working day before the ceremony

The Ceremony will take place usually in the service room of the Aberdeen Mosque and Islamic centre.

Any special arrangements or needs to be communicated to the Imam at least one week before the ceremony.

The service is free, but donations are welcome and optional.
